Hey there, Distant Dimensions here!
I hope you’ve had a good start to the new year... Almost the end of January already! I've got a few exciting game projects planned for this year that I'm looking forward sharing with you.
Last month I teased a new project I’m working on, and I’m finally ready to give more details.
While I'm still working on my first-person adventure game "Seclusion" (more on that in this post), as well as another secret project (more on that later), I want to really perfect those projects and not rush their development.
I've never released a full game before, and so I want to work on a shorter game that will help me get a better understanding of the process of launching games on Steam, and that I'll be less afraid of making mistakes with. I also wanted to work on a game that I could more openly share the development of and be able to take you along on the journey with me.
Anyway, with all that out of the way, what exactly is this new game project?
Well, first of all, it’s a puzzle game of course! To be precise, it’s a first-person, real-time 3D, escape room style game. You wake up in what seems to be an old medieval castle tower, but slowly start to realize your surroundings are a bit stranger than first meets the eye.
The game will probably be quite short, around an hour of gameplay (half an hour if you’re a good puzzle solver!), but I’m hoping the environment and puzzles still make it a worthwhile experience!
As I said before, the aim of this game is to get something released on Steam (hopefully in a few months), so to speed up production I’ll be using a lot of premade assets. I will be modelling a few props however, such as the puzzle table I previously shared (below left).
While I want to develop this game more openly, I still don’t want to spoil too much of the game and puzzles. That being said, I might put some puzzles out for testing, and you can also try your hand at this maze puzzle in the meantime if you like (below right).
As for my secret game project, it’s slowly progressing behind the scenes, and I can’t say for sure when it will be released (probably next year at the earliest. I can’t wait to share more, but that’s all for now! However, you can follow me on social media for any posts I might make before the next newsletter.
Until then,
Distant Dimensions
It really is a good start. It's also my favorite kind of game. That's why I made Cutish for sale on Steam.
The environment of your game is very neat. Congratulation. I can't wait to see the sequel.
Uploading to Steam is a bit difficult but the tools are very powerful. I was then able to make many updates easily.
