Hey everyone!
Sorry for writing this newsletter so late into the month, I’ve been pretty busy with game development stuff as well as real life things. I realized I haven’t really given any details on my development plan for “What Was Found at Ravenhill“, and when estimated release will be (which I think some people might be a bit too optimistic about😅), so that’s what I’m going to talk about today!
Ravenhill Game Plan Timeline
First off, I want to start by answering the question “how long has the game currently been in development for?”
Well, I first had the idea and started planning the story for the game around a year and a half ago, but I’ve only seriously been modeling and working on the actual game for the last few months… Which leads into the next question, “release date?”
At the moment the game is too early on in development to give an accurate release date estimate, but if all goes according to plan, I’m hoping somewhere in 2024 or 2025. However, I’m planning to put out a demo of the game sometime this year (aiming for October, but no promises), so stay tuned for more details on that!
Game Budget
Something else I haven’t spoken about yet is the budget of the game. At the moment I’m basically working on every aspect of the game by myself, from the modeling to the music. Currently I’m working on zero budget for the game in my “free time“, but the one thing I can’t do by myself is voice acting, and voice acting is quite a big task that I want to pay fairly for.
In order to pay voice actors, and to try cover a few other expenses such as the $100 steam fee, publishing license for the game engine I’m using, and any unforeseen costs, I plan to run a Kickstarter campaign when I launch the demo. I don’t expect any of you to donate, but when it goes live just spreading the word would be an amazing help!
Modelling Sneak Peak
Over the past few weeks I’ve shared a few renders of props I’ve made for the game, and so far I’ve been completely blown away by your positive reactions to what I’m working on! It’s really encouraging, and I can’t thank you all enough. I’m going to be posting another model on social media soon, but in the meantime I wanted to say thank you to my newsletter subscribers by sharing a sneak peak of a model I won’t be sharing on social media:
This desk isn’t finished yet, and it might have some secrets and puzzles… But you’ll have to wait and see what those are! 🔍
Again, I want to say a big thank you to everyone who’s shown interest in this project so far, even though it’s in the Very early stages! It really means a lot to me.
Until next time!
